Teachers' unions say the government's scientific experts have not fully answered their concerns about whether it’s safe for some children in England to return to school next month.
Some teachers have said social distancing will be difficult, particularly for younger pupils. The government has proposed a phased return for primary children in England from the start of June.
In Wales the First Minister Mark Drakeford has promised a cautious approach to easing the lockdown, saying that people’s health comes first. He outlined what he called a “traffic light” system for easing restrictions but warned he could not yet provide a timetable.
In England people are due to spend a first weekend under the new, less stringent lockdown rules, which now allow unlimited exercise and travel in order to enjoy the open air.
