Metropolitan Police staff have voted to strike for the first time in protest against reduced work-from-home options.
The PCS union reported 85% supported striking, while 91% backed other actions, following plans to require staff to work 60-100% of the time in the office starting next year. The changes affect 2,400 desk-based civilian workers, including 999 call handlers and child protection officers, many of whom had been working effectively from home.
The union says the policy disproportionately impacts women, part-time staff, and those with disabilities. PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote criticised the reversal of a blended working agreement, which previously allowed part-time remote work.
