Do not start your boat motor out of the water without hooking water to it. You can damage your motor or at least damage your water pump.

Check that battery is charged, Switch on, Motor in Neutral, Hook up hose with muffs, Turn water on, Start motor, run for 5-10 minutes, Key on and check temperature, Never leave motor running unattended, turn motor off, turn water off, Disconnect muffs.
