(30 May 2019) The Hungarian army has set up a pontoon near a capsized boat's wreck on the Danube River as part of the search and rescue operation following the deadly boat crash accident that killed at least seven people.
The pontoon will be used by divers who were deployed to try to locate the sunken sightseeing boat and 21 people who were on board the vessel and are still missing, Budapest's Disaster Management Office said. said.
The sightseeing boat carrying South Korean tourists sank in a matter of seconds after colliding with a larger cruise ship during an evening downpour on Wednesday.
Seven people are confirmed dead and seven were rescued, all of them South Koreans, Hungarian officials said.
Hungary's Human Resources Minister Miklos Kasler said four of those rescued have been released from the hospital, while the remaining three are being treated in satisfactory condition.
South Korea is sending its own rescue workers to Hungary to support rescue efforts as the accident involved 33 South Koreans.
Police launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
