Have you heard of Geneva Camp? It’s the largest settlement for the Biharis, often called “stranded Pakistanis” in Bangladesh.
They are Urdu-speaking Muslims from Bihar, India, who moved to East Pakistan after the 1947 Partition of India.
But when East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, gained independence in 1971, some Biharis living there who wished to move to Pakistan were not accepted.
For decades, they remained stateless, neither Pakistani nor Bangladeshi.
And many of them lived in Geneva Camp, where residents now report experiencing more violence in recent months.
