(7 Jan 2015) Many eastern Orthodox Christians in Moscow celebrated Christmas on Wednesday dancing to a traditional folk band at the city's Kolomenskoye open air museum.
Neither snow nor seasonal low temperatures scared the people away as they danced to energetic music and sang songs together with the upbeat local band.
"A bit of dancing felt really nice in this frosty weather," one reveller commented.
The Kolomenskoye museum, a tranquil enclave of cathedrals and traditional wooden buildings from around Russia is a popular destination for many Russians.
Christmas falls on January 7 for Orthodox Christians in the Holy Land, Russia and other Eastern Orthodox churches that use the old Julian calendar instead of the 16th-century Gregorian calendar adopted by Catholics and Protestants and commonly used in secular life around the world.
Christmas is one of the biggest and most widely celebrated holidays in Russia, although not yet as popular as New Year.
