Myers & Monroe Gallery is pleased to present this interesting trace of the late Charles X period, a secrétaire à abattant circa 1830-35. This lively piece is an example the rarer neogothic variety of the Charles X style. The flame mahogany is artfully displayed to appear to flow up and down the façade. The inlaid filets of lemonwood are almost needed to remind us that the piece is not a continuous block of seamless mahogany. The marble top is a white Carrara. True to its name, this "secret"-ary contains many secret compartments, some of which are shown in the video.
Many thanks to the creator of the extensive French period furniture reference site, @ for his insights on this piece.
Many thanks, Myers and Monroe, LLC
