The Kalashnikov Group unveiled a new AK-19 short-barreled assault rifle on August 13. The new AK-19 is based on the AK-12 assault rifle and is chambered for the NATO-standard 5.56mm round. Compared to the AK-12, AK-19’s length has been reduced, resulting in a compact size. The company said that the customer had requested that the rifle be outfitted with a suppressor device that would allow for silent firing. The company also added a front grip that would allow for more control over the weapon’s rate of fire. Watch the video to find out why Russia is making a rifle for NATO’s ammo?
