The newest expression of Diesel’s ongoing visual collaboration between Creative Director Glenn Martens and Art Director Christopher Simmonds, Break the Box expands on the Fall Winter 2024 Runway concept of watching and being watched. Photographer Paul Kooiker explores the relationship between voyeur and exhibitionist through the lens of a woman existing within the narrow parameters of a bland office setting. She sits and views a group of characters inside a different kind of box — a television.
On the other side of the lens, against the backdrop of cardboard walls, the diverse cast of models spanning ages, races, genders and species — there’s a baby and a chihuahua — comes to life. They dance, strike poses and reveal themselves to the syncopated beats of a techno track. The viewer is transfixed and turned on. She taps her foot and moves toward the screen. She wants in.
