Kostas Papadakis (Kissamos, 1920 – May 2003) was a distinguished Cretan violinist, well-known for playing Cretan folk music. He was recognised by the name "Naftis" (Ναύτης) which in Greek translates to "sailor". At age 7, he learned to play the violin, which was an Italian violin dated back to 1710, when the island of Crete was occupied under Venetian rule. He soon began playing at wedding receptions before he was even a teenager. He moved to the USA from 1959-1976 and in Australia from 1981-1986.
