Eating disorders affect all economic and educational groups, and changes in the mouth are often one of the first signs of an eating disorder. As dental professionals, we might be the first to notice these changes. It's important to have the knowledge to recognize signs of an eating disorder, and be able to provide a safe space for the patient to ask questions as they are comfortable discussing this very sensitive and personal subject.
