lead in: president sadat of egypt thursday (april 15 '76) attended a national security council session in cairo to brief egypt's political and military leaders on the results of his recent tour of europe.
president sadat visited west germany, france, italy, yugoslavia and austria. his aim was to establish political, military and economic links with countries other than the soviet union, on whose aid egypt has been dependent for twenty years.
america has recently pledged economic aid to egypt -- including the construction of a nuclear power station.
commentary: this was the first time cameramen have been allowed to film the egyptian security council in session. the council was attended by, amongst others, prime minister salem, foreign minister ismail fahmy, asu first secretary dr rifaat el mahgoub, and national assembly speaker sayed marei.
after hearing president sadat's report of his european tour, the council was expected to weigh egypt's chances of prospering without the strong soviet backing it has hitherto received.
when last month the soviet union refused to supply new arms to egypt, president sadat put an end to the "friendship and cooperation treaty" with moscow (march 14 '76).
