Lokvarsko jezero (also Omladinsko jezero) is an artificially dammed lake on the Lokvarka river in the area of Gorski Kotar in Croatia.
The storage lake is located at an altitude of 770 m from the village of Lokve.
The lake has an area of 2.1 km2, its maximum depth is up to 40 m, and it holds around 32 million m³ of water for the needs of several hydroelectric plants connected to the HE Vinodol system.
The first name of the lake was Youth Lake. It was named to honor the 27,000 volunteer builders in the youth work brigades, between 1952 and 1955 who built a 51 m high barrier out of soil in rocks.
After 22 years the lake was emptied, the next time it will be empied again after 20 years.
The lake was emptied in 2001 for maintenance and cleaning, as it is now.
We will be a little older then, so a unique opportunity to visit, almost like a walk on the moon🤣,
