Hydropower Project in the Picturesque Nilgiris

Kundah is situated in southern India's Western Ghats mountain range. It is located in the Nilgiris district, near Ooty. The region has hilly terrain, lush green forests, and picturesque landscapes. The region is famous for its tea plantations, which are integral to its economy. The cool and misty climate of the Nilgiris and its rich soil provide favourable conditions for tea cultivation. Many tea estates in Kundah produce high-quality tea renowned for its flavour and aroma.

In this beautiful place, the MEIL is constructing a project for utilising the natural topography and water resources of the Kundah region to generate electricity through a pumped storage scheme. This project is being built with a 500MW capacity. The Kundah hydropower project is one of India's biggest underground power-generating schemes. Once the project is ready, it will cater to Tamilnadu's power needs, positively impact the state's socio-economic profile, and contribute to sustainable development.
