The Promenade des Anglais in the Southern French city Nice reopened on Saturday following the deadly lorry attack which occurred along the route on Thursday.
Local police and municipal workers have been removing metal fences along the road and have been steadily reducing the police presence in the area since 10:00 Saturday.
As beaches and businesses reopen, visitors have gathered along the avenue in large numbers.
The visitors, mostly local residents and tourists, have come to mourn the 84 victims killed in the attack, with many laying flowers, letters or candles at tentative sites for commemoration.
"I express my sincerest condolences to all the victims and their relatives. I hope this violent tragedy can unite the people who are divided, because any country can be victimized. I hope we can become much stronger in facing this challenge," said Maxime Brunei, a local resident.
Some people brought stuffed toys to the site to mourn the 10 children killed in the tragic terror act, with many still struggling to come to terms with the horror of the event.
"It’s too hard to accept the reality that these children have been killed. Because their lives have just began. My child still has no idea what a terrorist attack is, we will explain it to him later, explain how these people lost their lives in vain just because of one crazy terrorist," said Yohan Turquier, another local resident.
