WARNING! The tube seals on these valve covers are NOT replaceable. You have to replace the entire valve cover. Some valve covers with non serviceable tube seals are very obvious that they're not replaceable. These ones aren't as obvious. If you try to remove one of these seals you will damage the valve cover and the car will be down until you can obtain a new valve cover. The local part store might not have one in stock...


2005 Nissan Altima 2.5L came in with complaints of a misfire. Had a P0301 - Cylinder #1 Misfire code. Also cylinder 4 was misfiring pretty good.

These Nissan's don't have misfire counters available to the scan tool. You can disable one injector at a time which'll be useful for a dead misfire but not useful for an occasional misfire. When it came in it didn't have a dead misfire but upon filming cylinder 4 turned into a dead misfire. Found the coil connector wasn't fully plugged in. This left the P0301 to deal with. Inline 4 so spark plugs are easy to get to and mileage due so went straight for an inspection/replacement of the plugs. Found the #1 tube seal to be leaking and the coil was saturated in oil.

The fix was fully plugging in the #4 coil connector, replacing the spark plugs, replacing #1 coil and replacing the valve cover. Cleared codes and ran smooth.
