Taiwanese popcorn chicken, commonly known as Taiwanese fried chicken (鹽酥雞) or salty crispy chicken, is popular street food and addictive snack from Taiwan which is westernized as popcorn chicken, which is a dish in Taiwanese cuisine commonly found as street snack and is indispensable to the night markets in Taiwan.
What is popcorn chicken? Unlike karaage though, the Taiwanese-style fried chicken is pulled from the fryer, dusted with a seasoning, usually a mix of white pepper and five spice, and then served immediately, whereas Japanese karaage is often served with mayonnaise and a wedge of lemon.
What is Taiwanese flavor? An array of seasonings is often used to flavor Taiwanese food, some of the most common being soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine, fermented black beans, and pickled radish which contribute unique flavor to the Taiwanese dishes.
