WiFi 6E is an extended spectrum option for WiFi 6 that opens up 1.2 GHz of additional spectrum, from 5925 MHz to 7125 MHz. Because there are existing users of that spectrum the FCC is requiring the development of an Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) system to ensure there is no interference from standard-power unlicensed 6E deployments with incumbent users of that spectrum, which include point-to-point Microwave Links, fixed satellite service and radio astronomy. They have now conditionally approved the applications from thirteen organizations, who will now be able to proceed to the next steps of lab and field testing.
