Dr. Lera talks about blood in dog's urine (hematuria) with Pepper, a four-year-old English Bulldog.
Hematuria can result from blood loss within either the urinary or reproductive tracts. It must be differentiated from other causes of discoloured urine including haemoglobinuria, myoglobinuria, and occasionally from drugs or chemicals that artefactually result in positive test results for blood on urine dipsticks. Occult hematuria refers to the presence of erythrocytes in the urine that are only evident on microscopy; gross hematuria refers to the situation when the quantity of blood in the urine is sufficient to be visible to the naked eye.
