About this video:
There are between 2.4 million and 5 million adults with cognitive disabilities in Canada, and millions more around the world. Unlike physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities tend to be invisible, or undiagnosed, or even kept secret by those who have been diagnosed. This means that persons with cognitive disabilities often have their needs ignored or overlooked in the workplace, which inevitably leads to problems.
Recognizing cognitive disabilities amongst workers is an important first step towards creating a more equitable and inclusive work environment. Unfortunately, the symptoms of cognitive disabilities are wide-ranging, making it hard for others to identify or understand them.
That's why Open Collaboration for Cognitive Accessibility has been working with other organizations to establish a common and standard definition of "cognitive disability" that can be used to help diagnose persons or upon which policies and programs can be based to accommodate their needs.
