Of the 6.9 million #refugees to flee #Ukraine during the war, around 50% went to #Poland.
Poland was the naturally landing spot for many due to the large border & history these two nations share, as well as a similar language and culture.
Well Poland has literally opened their doors to Ukrainians. Poland's #economy remains in a precarious state.
#Inflation is 14%, interest rates are rising and the country is facing a potential housing crisis.
To put in perspective, current #housing costs are not too dissimilar from those in Western Europe, however per capita incomes are half to two-thirds less. Making housing costs a struggle, especially for the younger generation. It's estimated nearly 50% of young people live in overcrowded households.
And with the rising interest rates, securing a mortgage has become more costly and difficult.
With the influx of Ukrainian refugees, rent has continued to spike, while supply is drying up. Poland is experiencing a housing shortage.
The obvious LT solution is to building more housing options. But in the short-term more creative solutions will be required to overcome this shortage. Many Polish family have started taking in Ukrainian families who cannot afford rent.
