In Victoria, an out-of-control bushfire has forced residents to leave, with firefighters bracing for the worst ahead of extreme conditions tomorrow.

Authorities fear hot and dry winds will pose a major threat to any new or existing fires, including in Grampians National Park.

That fire has razed more than 44,000 hectares, but Boxing Day conditions could see the blaze almost triple in size.
