Armenia, a resilient nation nestled in the South Caucasus region, finds itself in a fierce battle for survival
and sovereignty. Amidst these challenges, India emerges as an unexpected ally, arming Armenia with a
diverse array of Weapons Systems. This strategic move comes as Armenia takes a bold pro-Western and
anti-Russia geopolitical stance, diverging from its traditional ties to Russia's sphere of influence.
Delving into the history of Armenia's roots tracing back over 2,500 years, from its Zoroastrian past to
becoming one of the earliest Christian kingdoms. However, its history is marred by adversities, notably with
Turkey and Azerbaijan. Turkey, Armenia's historical adversary, has a complex history marked by genocides
and conflicts, including the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
The USSR era saw Armenia and Azerbaijan entangled in conflicts over regions like Nagorno-Karabakh.
Fast forward to recent times, Azerbaijan's successful 2020 offensive saw them reclaiming territories,
sparking tensions. Armenia's membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), led by
Russia, faced a critical test when Russia did not intervene during Azerbaijan's attacks.
This geopolitical rift led Armenia to shift towards a more Western-aligned stance, feeling let down by its
traditional ally. India's role in arming Armenia, despite its anti-Russia stance, adds an intriguing layer. Iran's
role in facilitating India's arms shipments to Armenia, amid its alliances with Russia and China, hints at a
complex web of alliances shaping the region's future. As Armenia navigates this geopolitical landscape, its
strategic choices could redefine the region's dynamics.
