Hey, this is Trevor with etrailer. Today, we're taking a look at the Gorilla Retractable Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps. Now, these straps will have a safe working load limit of 500 pounds each, and you will receive a pair of these. We always recommend you to use two straps anyways whenever you're tying down any of your loads. So to loosen your ratcheting strap, all you have to do is pull this sensor lever out, fold it flush, and then pull back, and it releases itself from there. Now, to install this strap, it's gonna be very easy.
All we're gonna do is throw it through our tie-down point here, take it over the top of our trailer. As you can see, as we're doing this, it's pulling out some slack for us. Re-hook it into this tie-down point, let it draw itself back in. Once it takes all that slack out for us, grab the middle tab to release, and then we're just gonna start ratcheting it down. (tab ratcheting) Now, the construction of this ratcheting strap is gonna be aluminum for all the metal on the outside here with this nice plastic molded handle.
And you will notice that it has some ridges along the handle for extra grip. One thing I'm not too fond of is this middle section here. It's only got enough room for you to get one finger in there, and I have had ratchet straps over time where they start to bind up in these gears here, so it makes it harder to pull on this handle. So that's just another thing to watch out for on this. Now, the mechanism itself is gonna have this plastic case around the outside to increase the lifespan of it for years to come.
One other feature about this I did like is if say you released that and when you're hooking this off, if the hook on the other side came undone, you can twist this little key to lock it in place. Now, you can set this down and go to the other side and fix that hook. Once you've done that, you can release that, let the slack go back in, and re-tighten it back down. (tab ratcheting) Now, taking a closer look, these hooks are an S-hook design. They are vinyl coated.
One thing to mention about that vinyl coating is with these smaller tie-down spots, they are tend to being stripped off from this pressure here. Another thing that I wanna mention is that these retainer clips here, they are prone to breaking. So a way I like to try and keep the lifespan of them up is I hook them like this, so there's no real point for these to connect to and break. Now, with those downsides out of the way, I think this strap is a very good strap for your utility trailers. But if you're looking for something that's a little bit more durable, Quickloader does make a version that is comparable to this. It's gonna have the same weight capacity, but that's a little bit shorter and the mechanism is gonna be full metal instead of all this plastic coating around the outside. Another thing to note is I didn't really like that middle hook here, just 'cause it doesn't give you as much leverage. This Quickloader one will have a longer handle on it to get a better grip. Only thing is, if you're in colder temperatures, you might prefer this plastic over the whole metal handle. Now, I did mention that these will come in a pair. And they will come inside of this case, it's a nice durable case. And it's pretty small too, so it'll fit underneath the back of your truck or say underneath the seat in your SUV. And on the bright side too, these are unlike other ratcheting straps where you might have to pull them far, free fold them back up to make them fit in this case, you don't have to worry about that with these. As soon as you release that lever, take the hook off, it retracts back up nice and neatly, and all you have to do is put it inside of this case, and you're done. Now, if you're just looking for a nice set of straps that are easy to use and easy to store, then this will be a great option for you. And that'll conclude our look at the Gorilla Retractable Ratcheting Straps. My name's Trevor, and thank you for watching.
