After the last Imalent R60C torrent almost burnt Blakes house down we claimed warranty on it. Imalent were kind enough to take it back and allow us to try the powerful nugget that is their MS08 34,000 lumen "Outdoor King"
This is by no way a detailed review. More a guy that drunk a 6 pack of beer in under two hours then went for a walk to his local forestry to blast some torches. This is QAM showing you the varying levels of torches we pack in our kits when we head underground to explore.
The Imalent is easily the best torch with a wide floodlight with no distinct hot spot. Even the Marauder to hit 14,000 lumens still has a slightly concentrated flood.
For what we do the Olight M2 is our pick as for what we need it for its durability that matters. We have tortured our Marauder 2 for over 18 month and it has not missed a beat. Given the external fan shield for that encloses the Imalent MS08 looks like a cheese grater, we don't think its going to like the mud we quite often drag ourselves through. Only time will tell. Blake is far more sensible than me underground, so he gets the MS08
Verdict:
If you're above ground and can holster your light, grab the MS08. It is the brighter, superior beam and super fun to use. Zero hot-spot. Perfect kelvin rating. One huge flaw though... when placing it on its back on a flat bench it almost always activates the thermal fan button. Large design flaw here. Not an issue when its being holstered though. The other thing we love with the Imalent is the magnetic charge. Its yet to let us down, but having a USB C on the Marauder makes us worry, especially when we go swimming with it.
If you're going to be getting dirty and wet with your torch like us and want something ultra durable, then grab the Olight Marauder 2. Just be sure to keep it in a good holster though. If the Marauder 2 lens is scratched then the proximity sensor plays up and needs to be disabled. other than that it's a weapon and somewhat of a trusty steed. We also love the rotary safety switch on our Marauder. It's never going to click on when you don't want it too. With torches surpassing 10,000 lumens, the power switch becomes an important safety feature. There is just something we don't trust with the Imalent power switches after the last one nearly burnt Blakes house down. The MS08 is also going to be stored at Blakes house but as per Imalents advice, long term storage should mean removing the batteries or using a battery neutralising gasket.
Cheers. Eb (QAM)
