Political insiders describe it as completely unexpected: after several weeks of campaigning for the job, Caroline Kennedy now says she does NOT want to be appointed to the U-S senate.
In a statement, Kennedy said, quote:
TAKE FULL SCREEN:
"I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration from the U-S Senate."
It's unclear what those personal reasons are: the NY Times is reporting that she had unspecified "problems involving taxes and a household employee."
Governor David Paterson has said he will move quickly to fill the seat held previously by Hillary Clinton, who resigned to become Secretary of State.
Kennedy had never held public office before, and her entry into public life was awkward at times.
Her heavy use of "you know" was mocked in a YouTube piece that was widely seen.

Also, public opinion polls have shown voters preferred the state's attorney general, Andrew Cuomo to fill the vacant senate seat.
