I encountered this striking yellow-phase timber rattlesnake while hiking the Black Forest Trail in north central Pennsylvania. Timber Rattlesnakes come in two color phases: black and yellow.

I saw five timber rattlesnakes over the course of a week-long hike on the Black Forest and Susquehannock Trails. All but one of these were black phase individuals. This was the prettiest, though far from the biggest, rattlesnake I encountered.
