Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944) was a popular, highly skilled, and prolific French composer and pianist. Her Album des Enfants, Op. 123 (1906) is a delightful collection of character pieces and dances that can serve as excellent pedagogical material for the developing pianist.
Her music reminds piano students that great art emerges from the human spirit, developed by hard work--irrespective of gender or nationality. Since Chaminade is under-appreciated today, these recordings of her pieces hope to raise awareness of her contributions to the trajectory of Western Art music--especially in the realm of piano pedagogy. Fellow composer Ambroise Thomas complimented the strength of Chaminade’s work: "This is not a woman who composes, but a composer who is a woman." This piece was performed by Chicago-area pianist and teacher, Faith Loewe Lucas, in February, 2020.
