The Aged Care Royal Commission on the federal government’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis has made a number of recommendations to the government in a recent report.
It recommends the government fund providers to ensure there are adequate staff in aged care to deal with visitors and create a Medicare benefit schedule item to increase the provision of allied health and mental health services to people living in aged care.
Further, it was advised the government publish a national aged care plan for COVID-19 and establish a national aged care advisory board.
Finally, it recommended to arrange for the deployment of credited infection prevention and control experts into aged care homes.
