We climbed Mount Toubkal at 4,165m, which is the highest peak in Morocco and North Africa. From the top we experienced amazing views of the Atlas mountains. The 2 day climb starts with a trek to the village of Imlil at about 1,800m. The first day was easy and the views amazing with high peaks all around, very friendly locals on the 'road' to Refuge du Toubkal. It took about 7 hours (including a 1 hour meal break and lots of smaller breaks to get fresh orange juice from the locals) to reach the Refuge du Toubkal at 3,207m. The weather was very beautiful, sunny and not many clouds, the fresh orange juice prepared by the locals was amazing, the best and sweetest juice I've ever tasted! When we arrived at Refuge du Toubkal, our Moroccan guides prepared traditional food for us, and after eating we immediately got into our sleeping bags (around 20:00), although we couldn't sleep much because the altitude, or maybe it was the euphoria of being in that amazing place, who knows. The next day after waking up at 2am, we had breakfast (again prepared by our wonderful guides) and started the ascent around 2:30am. The climb is very steep up to 4,000 m, so the pace was slow, with many short breaks for hydration. After about 2 hours of climbing we started to encounter ice on the trail so we put on our crampons and continued climbing up to 4,000m where we arrived just in time to enjoy a gorgeous sunrise and see the shadow of Mount Toubkal on Earth. After a longer break in the saddle at 4,000 m, we continued the ascent, which becomes smoother from here, reaching the summit around 8 am. After enjoying the success and the view from the top, we started to descend all the way back to Imlil.

There was alot of ice from ~ 3.500 m so you definetly need crampons. There where some people without and they had to turn back.
