In this video message, UND President Andrew Armacost talks about Time Out Week, a chance for reflection and a celebration of Native American culture for everyone on campus. On Friday and Saturday, the annual Wacipi, or powwow, will welcome people to campus from tribal nations across the region. This event showcases the art and regalia of groups competing in traditional dances, Armacost notes. All are welcome to attend.
The Wacipi will be held at the Hyslop Sports Center Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, and events for Time Out Week can be found on the UND Events Calendar.
This week is also the 50th Anniversary of the UND Indians into Medicine Program, otherwise known as INMED. Armacost remarks that it’s an important milestone for a program that has made contributions to tribal nations and society in the past half-century. Events are scheduled throughout the week, including a graduate recognition ceremony on Thursday at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Armacost then announces that Keith Malaterre has been named director for the University’s American Indian Center. The directorship has been vacant for a number of years, Armacost says, and Malaterre’s leadership will help restore the Center’s status and vibrancy on campus.
Founded in 1883, six years before the state itself was established, the University of North Dakota is a busy 521-acre campus, the state’s largest. We're an innovator in engineering, medicine, aviation and unmanned aircraft systems with colleges of business, arts, sciences, nursing, aerospace, education, engineering and medicine. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered online and on campus.
