Friction at Chimpanzee Eden at Twycross Zoo as Samatha the female chimpanzee is introduced to the bigger troop as part of the international breeding programme. There are still two groups of chimpanzees at the Twycross zoo. 11 chimps in one group and 3 in the others. At the moment I'm a bit confused myself, as the rumour has it that Jambo might be moved to the other group next door as they don't want to breed him because of his hereditary alopecia. My understanding always was that the two groups will come together as one, but maybe that is an even longer long-term plan. As we know Jambo is the Alpha, but for a while now it seems like he didn't enjoy the role anymore, but his females in the troop still stick by him and want him to remain as the Alpha. Twycross Zoo brought in Kibali as the breeding male and was suppose to take over as Alpha, which hasn't worked so far. That might be the reason they want to move Jambo across to his brother William. Samantha is getting slowly introduced right now and see how the group will go from there. I will keep everyone informed as soon as I get any more news.

Jambo who has alopecia, a form of hair loss was born on the 9th June 1982. He has a daughter named Genet. A brown chimp with a bald back.
His mum is Coco was born in 1965. Coco's offspring are Jambo and his half-sister Charlotte. She was born on 28 Sep 1978. Jambo has more siblings at Twycross from his father's side who is William born on the 30th of June 1982, Holly was born on the 27th of December 1982 and Jomar was born on the 28th of December 1990.
He started to lose his ear in November 2018, when he had a fight and his mum Coco ripped it. Twycross zoo tried to glue it back on with skin glue, but unfortunately, as time went past he picked on it that much that he lost all of it.
