This big oak was severely damaged in a summer storm. We spent a week or more in this neighborhood after that severe storm. The city of Madison requires special permits to remove oak trees during the growing season so we opted to wait until after October 15 for this job. As you will see at the end, this tree had defects in the main stem at the base, which would’ve coalesced with the injury on the trunk creating an eventual hazard. Following the policy of the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago and the next best time is today, the owner opted for removal, and we will likely plant a tree next spring as they are asking for recommendations. We chose to bring in Bruce from B & H tree service with his knuckle boom crane to have the least impact on the establish gardens, both in the yard and on the terrace. With the snow, we arrived late on site after 9 o’clock, and the job was cleaned up by just afternoon. The knuckleboom crane in such a close position, made for an efficient process, thankfully the temperature was above freezing and the roads were not slippery allowing us to travel down and get this job done. My son Taylor was the climber on this job. It was his first knuckle boom crane removal. I think he did a good job. Also, a big thank you to the crew handling the support brilliantly and of course we had a lot of fun.
