This is the golden gem of the Nolichucky. Quarter mile, as the name implies, is a quarter mile of whitewater with the crux being at the top. While none of the moves are difficult at this level, blowing a move can result in a very long swim. After the crux at the top, I like to stay middle or river right throughout the remainder of the rapid. The end of quarter mile is marked by a ledge called "Murphy's Ledge". The safe route is far river right, with more adventurous lines located towards the center. At this level, I would consider this rapid more of a Class III+.
