John Kerry, the US Special Envoy for Climate, met with Pope Francis and Vatican officials Saturday morning. Kerry, who is a baptized Catholic, has been meeting with government officials and business leaders ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, due to take place in Glasgow later this year. The former US Secretary of State spoke to Vatican Media after the meeting and when asked why he came to visit the Pope, he said that he believed when it came to the climate crises, Pope Francis is one of the great voices on the subject. He also talked about Pope Francis' encyclical 'Laudato Si'' saying it was, "a very, very powerful document, eloquent and morally very persuasive." After his time in Rome, Kerry will travel to London and then Berlin. Meanwhile, also at the Vatican this weekend, Pope Francis made an impassioned appeal for an end to the violence in the Holy Land. After the Regina Coeli prayer on Sunday, the Holy Father prayed for dialogue and forgiveness, and called the deaths of children in the conflict 'terrible and unacceptable.' Rome Correspondent, Colm Flynn reports.
