In my set-up, it's a great alternative to sleeping in the truck when weather permits and if you want a little extra space on those trips you plan to work from a more stationary camp. This trip to Big Bear was to get some hiking and rappelling in and as such we didn't change camp locations making it a perfect opportunity to set-up the Rooftop Awning Room .
Additionally, if a Rooftop tent just doesn't fit your rig or your budget, this is an alternative that just might work out for you. Being that I am looking for a more performance oriented build, the additional weight and it being located that far up was not ideal for the kind of driving I plan to do.
