Watch how to bleed the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT SRT8 coolant system with #mopabro fred_eazy21
This is on a 6.4L 392 hemi but this procedure also applies to the 5.7L hemi & 6.1L Hemi with similar coolant set ups.
Some hemi coolant system have the coolant reservoir on the driver side of the hemi which would be bled using the bleeder screw at the water pump.
In this 2019 Jeep SRT we have the coolant reservoir on the passenger side with a radiator cap as well. Simply fill up the water pump through the thermostat housing, then fill up the coolant reservoir. After that open up the radiator cap and fill with coolant until the Burping stops and all the air comes out of the coolant system.
Bleeding the coolant system on a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with a Hemi engine is essential for removing air pockets and ensuring proper cooling system operation. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to bleed the coolant system, also known as burping the radiator:
Materials Needed:
Coolant (manufacturer-recommended type)
Funnel
Distilled water (if coolant needs dilution)
Container for excess coolant
Procedure:
Cooling System Inspection:
Make sure the engine is completely cool before starting the bleeding process.
Check the coolant level in the radiator and the overflow reservoir. Ensure that the coolant is at the proper level.
Locate Bleeder Valve:
Identify the bleeder valve on the cooling system. This valve is typically located near the thermostat housing or on the highest point of the cooling system.
Prepare Coolant Mixture:
If you need to add coolant, prepare a mixture of coolant and distilled water according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Check your owner's manual for the correct coolant type and mixing ratio.
Open Bleeder Valve:
Place a container underneath the bleeder valve to catch any coolant that may spill.
Using a wrench, slowly loosen the bleeder valve to allow air to escape from the cooling system. Be careful not to remove the valve completely; you only need to open it enough to allow air and coolant to escape.
Add Coolant:
Pour coolant into the radiator or overflow reservoir until it reaches the maximum fill line. Use a funnel to prevent spills.
Keep adding coolant as needed to maintain the proper level in the radiator or reservoir.
Start Engine:
Start the engine and allow it to idle. Turn the heater to the maximum setting to open the heater core valve.
Monitor Coolant Level:
As the engine warms up, air bubbles may escape from the bleeder valve. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator or reservoir and continue adding coolant as needed to keep it at the proper level.
Close Bleeder Valve:
Once coolant flows steadily from the bleeder valve without air bubbles, close the valve securely using a wrench.
Final Checks:
Allow the engine to reach operating temperature and check for any coolant leaks or abnormal temperature readings.
Check the coolant level one final time and adjust as needed.
Test Drive:
Take the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT for a test drive to ensure that the cooling system is functioning properly and that the temperature remains stable.
By following these steps, you can effectively bleed the coolant system on your Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with a Hemi engine, ensuring proper cooling system operation and preventing overheating issues. If you're uncomfortable performing this procedure yourself, consider consulting a professional mechanic for assistance.
