Here’s my Roland D5 and my Demonstration why you don’t need one. They are somewhat versatile and dirt cheap but also with less features than anyone would want today.
A little about the D5:
Roland's D-5 is a digital synthesizer that was first released in 1989. It was part of the company's D-Series of synthesizers, which were designed to provide a more affordable alternative to their high-end synthesizers, such as the D-50.
The D-5 features a 61-note keyboard and uses digital synthesis to generate its sounds. It has 64-voice polyphony, meaning it can play up to 64 notes at once, and it has a range of built-in sounds that can be modified using the synthesizer's controls.
The D-5 includes a variety of different synthesis methods, including pulse width modulation (PWM), frequency modulation (FM), and sample playback. It also includes an on-board effects processor that can add effects to the synthesized sounds.
In addition to its built-in sounds, the D-5 also includes a number of programming options, allowing users to create their own custom sounds from scratch or modify existing presets.
