SARS-CoV-2 uses Spike-glycoprotein on their surfaces to interact with the human cell surface receptors (ACE2) which allows them to enter the cell and start their replication cycle. Neutralizing antibodies (NAb) can inhibit the infectivity by binding to the pathogen and block the molecules needed for cell entry. Thus, NAbs are very critical in the immunity against the virus, and it is known that only a very small portion of total antibodies generated by our immune system are NAbs.
