Hi,
in this lesson I am going through the Drop 2 chords/shapes on the 1st set of strings (1-E, 2-B, 3-G, 4-D) on the guitar. The chords covered in this lesson are: Major7, minor7, minor7b5 and dominant7. Make sure to get the chart of this lesson and have it in-front of you during the lesson. Get chart here: [ Ссылка ]
Drop 2 is a must-know for every guitar player in my opinion. You can use it to comp & extend your comping in general in different styles, with Drop 2 chords you gain fast access to all the 7th chords you need right under your fingers at any position of the neck, play chord melodies with ease, expand your lead playing & improvisation, and gain a better, more in-depth understanding of the guitar fretboard and harmony in general, not only on the fretboard itself but also in your ear!.
To gain full control of Drop 2 chords, you will need to practice the examples shown here in all 12 keys, just transpose the shapes shown in the lesson and play them in all sorts of configurations.
Another great way to practice and learn these, is to work with any sort of chord changes, such as a jazz standard (something like All the things you are for example or Stella by starlight). You can practice in many different ways,
for example you can play the entire standard while physically staying in one position of the fretboard without moving away from it. You can decide to constantly move up and down the fretboard changing chords as you play the changes. In addition it's great to practice scales adding Drop 2 chords and each note of the scale etc. There is no one way of doing it, have fun with it and explore the fretboard using this technique.
I hope you will find this helpful and insightful!
Practice smart, play hard & "Get to work!"
