House Republicans are moving closer to impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the border crisis. It is the first time in nearly 150 years that the chamber will try to remove a member of the president's cabinet. The fireworks came early as the House Homeland Security Committee marked up 2 impeachment articles. The allegations charge Mayorkas committed "high crimes and misdemeanors," accusing him of "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and claims he's breached public trust, and for those reasons he must go. Representative Mike Turner says, "Secretary Mayorkas' actions have forced our hand. We cannot allow this border crisis to continue. We cannot allow fentanyl to continue to flood across our border, and to allow criminals to waltz in undeterred." Democrats fired back coming to the secretary's defense. Representative Bennie Thompson says, "Republicans have failed to make a constitutionally viable case to impeach Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a dedicated public servant. The sham impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas is a baseless political stunt by extreme MAGA Republicans." Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
