(16 Apr 2019) French interior minister Christophe Castaner says there are still some risks that might endanger the structure of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
The monument is "under permanent surveillance because it can still budge," Castaner told reporters after a brief visit to the cathedral.
He added that state employees will need to wait 48 hours before being able to safely enter into the cathedral and retrieve the art pieces that remain there, some of which were too big to be transferred.
"We will be standing at (Notre Dame's) bedside", he said.
Castaner also said that according to the public prosecutor there was no reason to believe that the fire was anything but an accident, adding that an inquiry was nonetheless ongoing.
