This is my THIRD Sony FDR-X3000, bought from Amazon.com early in 2017. The first two came right out of the box with a blurred distal focus, and I sent both of them back immediately as being damaged. The third Sony FDR-X3000 had no issues and looked awesome...until the last two months, that is!! ECK!
Initially, I began to note that when the camera heated up over 5 minutes on my bike, the Actioncam would first be in focus, then quickly become out of focus. I've changed every setting, tried to keep it cool during recording, and never once dropped it, got it wet, or damaged it in any way, shape or form. Despite that, the actioncam has progressively become out of focus now past the first 2 feet the moment I turn it on. Very frustrating for such an expensive camcorder!
I filmed my little furry friendly yard critters getting a little early lunch to show the focal length and the major issue that's developed, and seems to be a theme where MANY have experienced the same thing!
One FDR-X3000 owner here on YouTube took his Sony Actioncam apart, finding that Sony GLUES the Zeiss lens in place! In a camcorder that heats up during use, well, glue tends to MELT! That's INSANE to simply glue a lens in place and think it's going to stay! I believe it's built-in obsolescence, especially with only a year warranty!! Luckily, I have a Sony FDR-X1000 that HASN'T gone out of focus yet...and I have a program that helps with reducing the fish-eye effect. I'm hoping THIS ONE doesn't go out of focus too!
I loved the B.O.S.S. system, but I'm never buying another Sony actioncam until they fix this atrocious engineering failure!
