The Qiantang River is affected by a large tidal bore, developing from the Hangzhou Bay and propagating upstream for more than 100 km. On 23 October 2024, the propagation of the tidal bore was observed at Xiasha, at the outskirts of the city of Hangzhou. The approaching bore extended over the full breadth of the river channel and was over nearly 2.1 km wide. This video shows the approaching bore and its passage at Xiasha. A few additional photographs are included. One photograph shows a police car driving slowly ahead of the bore front to alert the public.
