On Saturday evenings, a small group of South Gippsland hams meet on 144.190 MHz SSB for a chat. One regular is Neil all the way up in Alexandra. Most of the group use vertical polarisation and Neil's signal is just S1 down to me and others down here. So I decided to try a 4 element Quad based on a design by WA6TEY as found on the web. Our first attempt to work Neil was using the Quad in the vertical orientation. He did go from S1 to about S2. But It turns out Neil is using horizontal so in this video I am rotating the boom so that the Quad becomes a horizontal beam. So next time I am hoping to see an improvement. I should add that with the Quad set vertical, it was around 3dB better than the X200 aimed at the signal. Front to back is pretty good, maybe 20 dB or so, and side on response is a long way down. ,
