Humpback whales recorded underwater. These animals "sing song" for hours on end. We refer to this as song, because they arrange individual sounds, called units, into repetitive phrases and themes. We believe only males sing and that song plays a role in reproductive behaviour. The colour image shows a spectrogram. You can see a few song units.
