A very rare sight spotted at Lidl when shopping today! A December 1979 Fiat X1/9! It is a very, very long time ago that I remember seeing a few of these around when they were 6 or 7 years old! Even back then, they were pretty rare! I recall really liking the shape of these when I was a kid (I think Ed Sheeran had a similar opinion, judging by one of his songs! :) )
Autocar described the X1/9 as a baby Ferrari when they first tested it and you can clearly see why. The Italian styling flair is in abundance. While this one looks to be a daily driver with some corrosion to the door bottoms, the basic structure appears pretty sound. I spotted the underseal protection stickers, this procedure has almost certainly ensured the car's survival. The original 3D style plates and Cowie group supplied by rear window sticker are lovely original touches.
Apologies for the wind noise, this was shot on my ancient phone. I'm half tempted to carry my DSLR around with me, I saw a very rare 4 door Bristol at the same car park a few weeks ago and a D reg Toyota Celica on learner plates not far away but sadly I was without my phone at the time. Who needs classic car shows when you have Lidl?
