Hi all! Happy New Year if I haven't already spoken with you! Let's start 2023 fresh with a brand new train. We ended 2022 with an ICNG test ride. Now it's time to take that train back from Breda to Amsterdam and the Watergraafsmeer! Climb on board and enjoy the ride!
0:00 Breda
Two weeks ago our ride ended in Breda. After that I shunted the train to another track and had to wait for an hour before it was time for the ride back. Did you get your popcorn and drinks? Time for departure is here.
3:42 Breda Prinsenbeek
Just after this station you can see the high speed line (HSL) joining us on the left. This is the line coming from the border of Belgium
5:43 Entering High Speed Line
Time to enter the HSL. As you might remember from last video, the ICNG automatically changes to the ERTMS safety system. And because driving under ERTMS the train also knows exactly where the voltage change over is located. Because the train has this information it can now also automatically make the change in voltage from 1.5kV DC to 25kV AC. This way the driver can fully concentrate on what is happening outside the train. And of course make check if the train does all the work correctly.
7:08 Gaining Speed Quicker than TRAXX
After passing the voltage change over with TRAXX at this location we must always wait with connecting the high voltage until we have passed the phase-lock a bit further on the route. With ICNG this is different. The train is quick with setting power to the trains systems and therefor we can already gain speed before the train shuts down the high voltage systems again just before the phase-lock. This saves at lot of time compared to the TRAXX locomotives.
After we passed the phase-lock the train set the high voltage back to the train and we can now gain speed until 200km/h!

9:57 Tunnel Dordtsche Kil
11:01 Mookhoek
12:26 Molendijk
12:38 Tunnel Oudemaas
14:15 Leaving HSL
End of the south section of the HSL. Time to change back from 25kV AC to 1.5kV DC. After we slowed down the train it does the change of voltage all automatically again. Just after the change over we must slow down to 140km/h. And just after Kap Barendrecht we must confirm the ATB safety system. The driver must confirm this because the train want to know if the driver has seen the first light signal again.
16:12 Rotterdam Lombardijen
17:00 Rotterdam Stadion
17:42 Rotterdam Zuid + Willemsspoortunnel
18:40 Rotterdam Blaak
19:49 Rotterdam Centraal
After arrival at this station I did a door test. Skipped that part of the video. Another door test will be done in the video at Schiphol and Sloterdijk. Skipping some time at Rotterdam because I had a long stop at this location.
22:54 Entering HSL North Section
Time to enter the north section of the HSL. Like before the train works his way fully automatic through this part of the journey so the driver can fully focus on what is happening outside and with the trains systems.
23:31 Tunnel Rotterdam Noord
25:49 Bergschenhoek
27:38 Phase-Lock Bleiswijk
Separation of two high voltage sections. This to prevent too many trains running under one section taking too much energy from the lines.
29:57 Tunnel Groene Hart
The longest train tunnel in The Netherlands.
31:11 Temporary Speed Restriction
On the next part of the HSL a temporary speed limit because of some infrastructure problems on the HSL. ProRail and Infraspeed are looking into the problems. Until than we have a limited sped of 160km/h and 80km/h on this part of the HSL. Don't know when this will be fixed btw.
38:24 Nieuw Vennep
39:28 Leaving North Section HSL + Hoofddorp Opstel
End of the HSL in this video. The train automatically changes voltage. And just before Hoofddorp the driver must confirm the ATB safety system again. If the driver does not respond within 5 seconds the train will stop.
40:31 Hoofddorp
41:29 Schipholtunnel
42:48 Schiphol Airport
Time to do a doortest at this station. The doors are opened on the blind side of the train so no passengers are able to enter the train. :)
51:11 Amsterdam Lelylaan
53:58 Amsterdam Sloterdijk
Short (unplanned) stop for another door test here. Trying out a quick door test without loosing scheduled time.
56:49 Werkplaats Zaanstraat
57:24 Contact Train Dispatcher + Singelgrachtbrug
Contact with train dispatcher to ask if we can cancel the stop at Amsterdam Central Station. Therefor we will pass through that station with -7 minutes on the scheduled time.
58:51 Amsterdam Centraal
12:26 Amsterdam Muiderpoort
1:05:16 Watergraafsmeer
Just waiting for a short time before we can enter! You can see why in the video.
I hope you enjoyed the ride. Thanks for watching and spread the word! :) Cheers!
