Here is a vid showing a problem we are having on site with these flat arches. They are a new feature to this house builder so we are the guinea pigs.
You will see that when they are installed, the joints either side are far bigger then the ones on the pre made sections. The general opinion is that they have been designed like this to allow for weep holes every 450mm (nhbc regulations). I’m not sure about this and I have a gut feeling that they are wrong.
Even if you dislike the arch please don’t dislike the vid. Lol. I’ve tried my best and just want to put it out there in case anyone has had a similar experience. I do think it’s a shame that we get things like this pre made as most of us are trained to cut and build these types of arches at college.
It feels like they don’t have the confidence in current bricklayers to be able to do it. To be fair it might just be that they want to keep the dust down on site so get them pre cut.
Like I say, I’m not overly happy with this feature and I would like clarification that we are doing it right. To change these further down the line would be an absolute nightmare.!! 😊👍
*Unfortunately, while focusing on the big joints I actually managed to lay 2 of the segments upside down which messes the bond up. I can’t believe I missed it. It’s going to be a pain to put right! Mistakes happen from time to time but Thankfully not to often.
