Hiking in London Club at the Kent castles!
I recently had the opportunity to explore the Hever to Leigh walk, and it was an adventure I won't soon forget! This 8.8-mile trail is packed full of historic landmarks and beautiful natural scenery that will leave you feeling truly inspired.
Our journey began at Hever station, where we caught a glimpse of the magnificent Hever Castle. We didn't have time to tour the inside, but we still managed to appreciate its beauty from the outside. Next, we visited St Peter's Church, a charming little church with a rich history that we couldn't resist admiring.
The trail then led us to the stunning Chiddingstone Castle, which we only viewed from the outside due to our limited time. Nonetheless, its striking façade left us completely in awe. We also stopped by St Mary's Church in Chiddingstone, a picturesque church with a history that dates back centuries.
Our hike then took us to the impressive Penshurst Place, which we only admired from afar. Its grandeur and history are truly remarkable, and it's definitely worth a visit for anyone who has the time. Finally, we visited the St John the Baptist Church, an old church with an eerie atmosphere that's sure to leave an impression.
The difficulty level of this hike is moderate, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys hiking and is reasonably fit. It's an adventure that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels.
Getting to the starting point of the trail is easy, as Hever station is easily accessible via train and bus routes. I would recommend wearing comfortable hiking shoes, a light jacket, and a hat to protect you from the sun.
One of the most interesting things about this trail is its rich history. Did you know that Hever Castle was once home to Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII? And that Penshurst Place was once owned by the Sidney family, who played a prominent role in English history?
At the end of our hike, we were hungry and decided to stop at The Plough Inn, a charming pub that serves delicious food and drinks. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on our journey.
In conclusion, the Hever to Leigh walk is an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves nature and history. Even if you can't enter the historic landmarks, simply seeing them from the outside is a treat in itself. Don't miss out on this amazing trail!
